Created at the Institut national d’histoire de l’art in 2025, in collaboration with the “Terrains contraints” mission at the CNRS (UAR 2999 Études aréales) and the Observatoire des patrimoines of the Alliance Sorbonne Université (OPUS), RePaZ is part of the SPHINX consortium in the framework of Program 10, “Threatened/Obscured heritage.”

RePaZ has a steering committee, as well as a scientific committee, composed of members from the world of research, French research institutions abroad (UMIFRE), museums, private collections, foundations, NGOs (Blue Shield), and relevant governmental organizations (particularly the Ministry for European and Foreign Affairs).

RePaZ seeks to create an international network bringing together research institutions active in Middle Eastern archaeology and art history and in bordering regions, whether these are institutions based in the areas in question or active abroad.

Thanks to the support of public and private foundations (INALCO Foundation, Bruschettini Foundation, Soudavar Foundation), RePaZ offers doctoral contracts, postdoctoral opportunities, and mobility grants for researchers from regions impacted by crisis, whether they live in their own country and have taken refuge elsewhere.
